in Source list, you can suppress the selected clip from its contextual menu but it should also work by pressing the "Suppr" key (note that pressing the "Insert" key add the clip to the timeline)

Duplicate of #595402, but then this caused bug #597243 so I'm hesitant in reopening 595402 again because I consider it to be a dangerous feature, and because it can be done with right-click or using the toplevel menus.
