Try this:

- open one app window, place it on the right half of the screen
- open another app and place it on the left half of the screen

When activating overlay mode now, the windows swap position, meaning the first launched window moves to the left and the second window moves to the right.

IMHO it would be better to minimize window movement in such a situation and just display the second window first in overlay.
