Description Matthew Barnes 2009-06-29 01:14:56 UTC
Forwarding this from a Fedora bug:
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=497587

Ed: This is against an older, now unsupported version. I've already asked the reporter to verify the bug still exists in the current release.

Description of problem:

When email message with subject line that contains % char is received Evolution
displays for a fraction of second some error message (it is not long enough to
see what it actually says) and then the message disappears from the Inbox.

Note that this problem is experienced only for messages received and stored on
MS Exchange server.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

2.22.3.1

How reproducible:

Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have someone send you email with subject line containing % character
2. Note the message appear in your Inbox
3. Click on the subject line to display the content in the message preview area

Actual results:

Some text (it appears to be error message to me) appears for fraction of a
second, followed by the complete disappearance of the message from the Inbox.

Expected results:

Message should be displayed in the preview area.

Additional info:

Few more notes:

A. The message stays on the server, i.e. it is not deleted. It can be viewed,
moved, replied to, etc. without errors, through native MS Outlook client or
OWA.

B. A simpler method to reproduce the error is this:

1. Click on the button to create new message. If you have multiple accounts
configured, make sure to choose in the "From" line the account for the MS
Exchange server.
2. Type a "%" character in the subject line
3. Click on "Save Draft" button"
4. Observe the error message in the status bar at the bottom -- "Error while
Saving message to folder"

I am not 100% certain but it seems possible to me that both problems are
related or even they may have the same root cause.

The "evolution-exchange" package only supports Exchange 2000 and 2003 servers. Newer versions such as Exchange 2007 and 2010 are not supported by "evolution-exchange". It is required to use the package "evolution-ews" (or to some extend "evolution-mapi") for newer version fo Exchange servers.

If the problem/request described in this report still happens with a recent version of "evolution-ews" or "evolution-mapi", please add a comment to this report (and update the "product" setting accordingly if possible).

There are currently no plans to continue the development of the package "evolution-exchange", so this report will soon be closed as WONTFIX.
Thanks for your understanding and sorry that the reported problem was not solved in time in the package "evolution-exchange".
Comment 2 André Klapper 2013-07-23 14:32:11 UTC
evolution-exchange only supports the older Microsoft Exchange server versions 2000 and 2003. The last stable release of evolution-exchange was 3.4.4 which took place a year ago.

evolution-exchange is now deprecated and not under active development anymore.

It is unlikely that there will be any further active development.

Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping.

Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if anyone takes the responsibility for active development again.

Also feel free to reopen this ticket and change the "Product" field accordingly if the reported issue still happens with a recent version (newer than version 3.6) of one of those Exchange backends that are still supported.
Please see https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/3.8/exchange-connectors-overview.html for more information on available backends.
