GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 582816
Error with fake IMAP folder containing only other folders
Last modified: 2013-08-19 14:56:32 UTC
Please describe the problem: On my IMAP account, I have several folders nested inside other folders that aren't catual maildirs. Evolution gets confused by this setup and repeatedly reports errors like this one: Could not open 'FDO': No such folder FDO Changes made to this folder will not be resynchronized. My IMAP server is Dovecot. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
Can you please provide an example setup? Which DoveCot version?
For instance, I have three Maildirs like so: drwx------ 5 bernie bernie 1024 May 14 15:03 .FDO.cairo/ drwx------ 5 bernie bernie 1024 May 14 15:03 .FDO.xcb/ drwx------ 5 bernie bernie 1024 May 14 15:03 .FDO.xorg/ There's no .FDO maildir folder, but Evolution forges one and then complains when trying to access it. This is dovecot-1.1.10-1.fc10.i386.
Confirmed in 2.27.2.
Confirmed in 3.0.2. And this seems to be a duplicate of #257172.

Hmm, I cannot reproduce it with 3.2.2 any more, maybe it is fixed. New behaviour is to show the Right Click menu, but an operation like “Properties” throws errors. Slightly better, but not perfect. Also, after selecting the folder, the message pane is now just empty, which is sensible. In a real, but empty folder, the message pane shows “There are no messages here” (self-back-translated), so maybe it would be possible to give a corresponding message in a folder-only folder as well. Or make it not selectable.
Closing as OBSOLETE since this was filed against the legacy IMAP backend which was retired in 3.8. Reopen if this issue is still present in Evolution 3.8 or later.
