Once #582810 and #571989 will be fixed, the preview widget won't be displayed when not needed.

Then I think the remaining issue will be to unsensitive the "Video Preview" menu item if not camera is plugged.

Both Bug 582810 and Bug 571989 are fixed and merged. Since they solved this issue, this bug could be closed.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
