GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 579914
Please add support for Spotify
Last modified: 2018-05-24 14:17:59 UTC
Spotify is a last.fm like service with support for searching music and create your personal playlists (and also colaborative ones with other users). Would be great to be able to use my Spotify account within Rhythmbox. It could be easy using libspotify (recently published by the spotify people) or by using despotify (an inverse engineered one). http://developer.spotify.com/en/libspotify/overview/ http://despotify.se/
This doesn't seem very practical. First, you need to have a spotify premium account to get an application key. Then, you need to keep the application key secret somehow. Then, you wouldn't be able to distribute binaries using libspotify due to licensing; using despotify seems like a bad idea as spotify appear to be quite hostile to it.
Someone did a plugin for Spotify: http://wiki.bleurgh.com/RhythmboxSpotify
(In reply to comment #2) > Someone did a plugin for Spotify: > > http://wiki.bleurgh.com/RhythmboxSpotify Except that it breaches the license agreements in Rhythmbox itself (the GPL+exception of Rhythmbox isn't compatible with the non-free libspotify license).
