libXSLT/libXML include out of date config.guess and config.sub
files that don't recognize Darwin. After replacing
these files with newer versions (which can be found at URL above), the
build works flawlessly on Darwin/MacOS X.

Okay I updated them on the RH-6.2 machine where I do my
packaging. This should fix it for next releases (since they
are not in CVS).

Should be fixed in 2.4.2/1.0.2 , libtools/automake/autoconf
was upgraded too,
