Brasero : burn speed selection : only "maximum speed"
Last modified: 2011-12-01 07:13:26 UTC
Please describe the problem: Good evening, I'm using Brasero 0.8.2 . When i want to burn something, (Audio,video,Iso...), i can't select burn speed ! When the burn speed selection box is clicked, the only option displayed is "maximum speed" ! I also try the last version of Brasero (0.9.1), i have the same problem... I have only this problem with Brasero ! No problem with GnomeBaker CD Writer.... Steps to reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? I have this problem every time ! I try diffrents cds and dvds, differents brands (Emtec,Traxdata,Verbatim) and i still have this problem every time... Other information: I use Brasero with Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 Beta. I use Hewlett Packard HP DVD640 burner. I'm not single, we speak about this problem here : http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=301880 I know that some people report this problem (Bug 537871), but it is stil present. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537871 PS : Sorry for my bad english PS 2 : Thanks a lot for your help. Bye.
I have this problem with Ubuntu 9.04 and Brasero 2.26.0. When I try to burn a CD (up to 52x perhaps), the only option is maximum speed. This is dangerous because underuns are likely with write only audio discs. This is a problem with both data and audio CDs. Previously I was using Ubuntu 8.04 and an earlier version of Brasero and there was no problem with speed selection. CD writer is an MSI CD writer/DVD reader. Can supply more hardware details if this helps. I don't know if this a purely Ubuntu problem (faulty build perhaps?) or if it happens with other distributions.
Some more investigation (see my report above) shows that the problem is unlikely to be due to brasero itself: 1. Brasero 2.26.0 on Ubuntu 9.04 only allows maximum speed. 2. Brasero 0.8.2 on Ubuntu 8.04 offers a range of speeds. **However** 3. Brasero 0.8.2 (from Ubuntu 8.04) when installed on Ubuntu 9.04 also only allows maximum speed. It would seem that the problem is outside of Brasero itself. Could it be the underlying disc burner? All packages are the Ubuntu *deb ones.
Thanks for the report. " 2. Brasero 0.8.2 on Ubuntu 8.04 offers a range of speeds. **However** 3. Brasero 0.8.2 (from Ubuntu 8.04) when installed on Ubuntu 9.04 also only allows maximum speed. " That's strange indeed but maybe that's caused by a patch they added on top of 0.8.2. What you should have is a list of speeds but not all speeds with an increment of 2. Could you report what HAL (using lshal) tells you about the medium when inserted? Could you also provide me with a brasero log please; for one of the media you already tested, insert it and launch "brasero --brasero-media-debug > log 2>&1" (provided you use 2.26.0) and attach the log file to this bug. Thanks in advance.
Created attachment 134408 [details] Hal stuff on CD-R

My comments seem to have got lost by Bugzilla. Here they are again... I put in a 52x blank CR-R and enclose the stuff from Hal about this disc. I also enclose the stuff from Hal about my particular CD writer/DVD reader. I started Brasero as requested using the same CD-R disc and enclose the log. I quit out of Brasero just after the option to change speed became available. Again only 52x was mentioned. I see there is an error mentioned in the log but don't know if this is important. Many thanks, Richard
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. However, this application does not track its bugs in the GNOME Bugzilla. We kindly ask you to report the bug to the application authors. For a selective list of other bug tracking systems please consult http://live.gnome.org/Bugsquad/TriageGuide/NonGnome. If the affected third party application has a bug tracking system you should investigate whether a bug for the reported issue is already filed in this system. If it has not been filed yet please do so. Also ensure that both bug reports contain a link to each other. Thanks in advance! i assume this is a Ubuntu issue as per comment #2 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=578180#c2 please report if the problem persists
(In reply to comment #8) > However, this application does not track its bugs in the GNOME Bugzilla. Just to clarify: Brasero is a GNOME application and uses GNOME Bugzilla, but as per comments this seems to be an Ubuntu issue, as written later: > i assume this is a Ubuntu issue as per comment #2
