GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 576427
WISHLIST: Recent locations, like recent documents
Last modified: 2012-11-25 23:14:44 UTC
It would be very nice if folders recently visited in Nautilus were available in a "Recent locations" menu, like the "Recent documents" one.
History is availible in the browser mode sidebar and in the "go" menu. Do you want this for spatial windows?
The history seems to be restricted to places visited in the current session, and not to be remembered in sessions as the recent documents are. It would be nice, as well, if the recent locations were available through the global Places menu in the top desktop menubar. My usage case for this is simple session management: if I was working in two or three directories the last time I used my computer, I can just go to Global Menu -> Places -> Recent Locations and quickly reopen the relevant browser windows. Obviously a persistent history would achieve the same, albeit in a slightly less convenient fashion.
It would be nice to have something like this in the "Places" menu, similar to the "Recent documents" sub-menu. The usecase is when you're saving lots of stuff to the same directory, or opening things from the directory (say for a project), and you later want to get back to the directory to open another file, or copy another file into the directory (after downloading it to the Desktop, say), there's no easy way to get to the recently used/opened directory from the panel or desktop, or a new Nautilus window. The best way is to open up a new window, and look in the Go menu, but I only found that after reading comment #1 :) This is a duplicate of bug #325824. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 325824 ***

This bug has been closed as resolved, but AFAIK there is still no way to access the recent locations from Nautilus 3.6. There is no "Go menu" nor history anymore, and the "Recent" place only shows files. For me the solution that would most make sense would be to simply show folders along files in the "Recent" Place. But whatever the solution, there needs to be an easy way to go to recently accessed directories. Can we re-open this bug?
