Description sharktooth 2001-07-16 15:18:09 UTC
Package: panel
Version: 1.2.4
Severity:

>Synopsis: Crash on boot
>Class: sw-bug
System: Dell PIII - FreeBSD 4.2 Release

>Description:
Dell PIII 540MHz
FreeBSD 4.2 Release (kernal rebuild to allow for sound)
20 Gb Quantum Fireball
Running a standard SVGA driver

KDE ran fine, trying to move to Gnome
(Prefer Sawfish, but doesn't list in Window
  Managers.)
On start, got a generic crash, can move back to
KDE until it is figured out. (control panel also
crashed when I ran it, thinking it may have been
enlightenment instead of gnome, but to no avail
- twm also behaved the same) after running from
the command line setting DISPLAY=:0.

>How-To-Repeat:
Switched from KDE 2.0.1 to KDE 1.2
Loaded Gnome, Englightenment, Sawfish, and Afterstep
using the FreeBSD /stand/sysinstall configuration
and package manager.
Altered .xinitrc and .xsession from the
  exec kde-start
to
  exec gnome-session
Logged out, and then logged back in (Graphical login
enabled using kdm still, not gdm or xdm.)

This way of starting gnome has been deprecated for a long time. Please
upgrade to a later version of gnome and see if that fixes the problems
for you.
