(smoketesting 2.25.92)

The hint icon used in games does not feel very tango-ish. It probably makes sense to ask the art team for a new one.
Comment 1 Vincent Untz 2009-03-04 17:09:30 UTC
I actually see this icon in empathy too. So maybe it's an icon in the theme?

(I still feel it's not very tango-ish, though)

You mean the lightbulb icon used e.g. in aisleriot? That's the GTK_STOCK_DIALOG_INFO icon. I agree that we should have a better one, esp. since this icon is usually only available in the GTK_ICON_SIZE_DIALOG size in themes.

Yep, this one. I thought it came from gnome-games since I saw some GAMES_STOCK_HINT (or something similar) in the code.

Not sure where this should be moved: gtk+ or gnome-icon-theme?
Comment 4 Christian Persch 2009-03-04 17:58:57 UTC
Well, we're re-defining it as GAMES_STOCK_HINT so we can have a different stock label with it. I think the right thing here is to have an artist create a new icon [http://live.gnome.org/GnomeArt/ArtRequests] that g-g would then install as a private themed icon.

Hint icon idea

I've come up with a new icon for the hint. Let me know what you think.

Hint icon

Here's a Grey version of the same icon
Comment 9 Christian Persch 2011-04-14 18:36:18 UTC
Vincent: what do you think about the proposed icons?
Comment 10 Michael Catanzaro 2014-06-21 14:12:25 UTC
We've been using dialog-question-symbolic for hints in other games.
Comment 11 Michael Catanzaro 2015-04-01 13:05:23 UTC
Slightly repurposing this bug because it is tied to the open art request at https://wiki.gnome.org/Design/ArtRequests

Nowadays icons are expected to be symbolic, so a tango icon would not be appropriate. We'll keep the icon in libgames-support so it can be shared between games. (aisleriot can of course go its own way if it wants, but this is what we'll do for all the other games.) For now it will probably be a copy of dialog-information-symbolic (a light bulb), since dialog-question-symbolic looks like a missing image placeholder, but I'm not sure if the light bulb adequately screams "get a hint" or not. Maybe it's fine as-is; otherwise, it'd be great to have a new hint icon.
