The default value for /schemas/apps/gedit-2/preferences/encodings/shown_in_menu
has the comment:
<!-- Translators: This is the list of encodings shown by default in the
Character Coding
        menu in open/save file selector. Only recognized encodings are
displayed.-->[ISO-8859-15]

The or translation doesn't seem to be a list of encodings:

<default>[ଆଇ.ଏସ.ଓ.-8859-15]</default>
