the current gdm 2.25 version assume that only one libexecdir is used which is not true on debian based distributions, gdm doesn't success to start gnome-settings-daemon due to that for example

you could use 'pkg-config --variable=libexecdir gnome-settings-daemon' to get the gnome-settings-daemon location, ck-get-x11-display-device has a similar issue which is discussed on an another bug
