GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 565760
gnome-display-properties no longer ask a confirmation after a resolution change
Last modified: 2008-12-27 12:23:20 UTC
Before when you changed the resolution on the gnome desktop, you had to confirm this resolution was working. In the case your screen went blank, after 15 sec you could recover your previous resolution and it was working well like this. But now there is no confirmation, if means if your screen doesn't support a refresh rate or a resolution (mine doesn't support 800x600 at most refresh rate), you have to kill the current X session to recover it. If you change the resolution with ctrl/alt/+ or /- , it turns to 640x480 and you can no longer alter the resolution this way. In addition, it would confuse new users if they can't recover their screen. I've experienced this on archlinux and some ubuntu users have reported this kind of problem too: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/197673 so I guess it's an upstream problem.
