GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 563288
PKCS12 File Password field too short in GUI
Last modified: 2012-12-11 08:54:51 UTC
Please describe the problem: I went to import my PKCS12 certificate from VeriSign. The password I entered when creating the certificate is longer than the GUI entry box allowed. Unable to use certificate because I can't import it. I could successfully import it into other applications. Steps to reproduce: 1. create a PCKS12 security certificate with a password longer that the GUI field. 2. Edit->Preferences->Certificates->Your Certificates->Import 3. Navigate to PCKS12 file 4. Enter password for "NSS User Private Key and Certificate Services" 5. PKCS12 file password filed is too short. Key password. It stops after a certian number of characters. I did not count them. Actual results: Can't import security certificate. No error message, just returns to the Certificate dialog. Expected results: Certificate shows up in List box. If some error prevented importation a dialog box with an error message should be displayed. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: Works in Thunderbird and Kontact.
Thanks for a bug report. I tried to reproduce with current git master, whichis basically the same as current stable (3.6.2) and I was able to enter 92 letters as a password, verified with gdb. I guess the issue was somewhere between evolution and gtk, because even in gnome-2-22 branch the code which asks for a password doesn't set upper limit for password length.
