Description chrisw 2008-12-02 14:25:14 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Evince seems not to display ligatures such as ff, but replaces them by a space in the following document.

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200708/cmselect/cmtran/84/84.pdf

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200708/cmselect/cmtran/84/84.pdf

2. Go to page 41
3. See that "Clive Efford" is rendered as "Clive E ord",

Actual results:
"Clive Efford" is replaced by "Clive E ord" both in the text on screen, and when copied and pasted. This is not the only case - there are plenty of other examples of ff being replaced by a blank space.

Expected results:
I would expect the ff to be displayed on screen. When copying the text, I'd expect it to appear as two characters (or in the case of ffi as three).

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
I have also reported this as a Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=507505

I can see Clive Efford, however it's rendered as Clive EVord when selected. It's a bug in poppler, anyway. Could you forward this bug to the freedesktop bugzilla, please?

Thanks for reporting.
