Description Gyorgy R. 2008-11-07 09:14:54 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I print
* multiple copies of PDF documents
* with odd number of pages in the document
* in double sided format

Following happens:
the back side of the last page on the first copy should be blank! but instead the first page of the next copy appears on it.
No blank pages are printed ==> the documents can not be separated (_copy1-last page_ and _copy2-first page_ on the same paper)

Software:
evince doc viewer 2.20.1
Document Viewer.
Using poppler 0.6 (cairo)

Ubuntu 7.10 regularly updated
Printer:
Kyocera dn3900fs
on a CUPS printer server accessed via URL: socket://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9100

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a PDF file (using evince in e.g. Ubuntu 7.10) with odd pages
2. print it with following parameters: number of copies: 3 collate: no
3.

Actual results:
the back side of the last page on the first copy should be blank! but instead the first page of the next copy appears on it.
No blank pages are printed ==> the documents can not be separated
(_copy1-last page_ and _copy2-first page_ on the same paper)

Expected results:
The printer should print a blank page on the backside of the last page of the first copy.

Does this happen every time?
YES: 5 out of 5 times. not tested more to save paper:-)
it was reproduced with the latest Ubuntu (8.10)

Other information:
I was instructed to report this bug here after having reported it at Launch pad as Bug #282659 (sorry I am new to this -> do not know where to report bugs...)

I also looked around in the Ubuntu bug list. Please have a look at bug #258364 in launch pad:
"Evince incorrectly prints multiple copies as one job".
It is maybe not the same, but the problem seems to have the same roots.

I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu Intrepid (GNOME 2.24.1)

I can confirm it on Ubuntu Intrepid too. Anyone listening?

BTW, another "funny" behaviour (probably related) is the following: try to print 10 copies of a double sided document with a 2 page lenght, uncollated. You will have 5 sheets with page 1 on the two sides, and 5 sheets with page 2 on the two sides, which is quite surprising... I think that collate/uncollate should apply to the sheet, not to the page.

It's a very similar problem to the main one, I think.

Evince says it's 2.24.1 using poppler 0.8.7 (cairo).
