Description Peeter P. 2008-11-02 18:13:13 UTC
Please describe the problem:
It is possible to sort every playlist differently by clicking one of the columns, but if you sort for example in playlist 1 by artist and then in playlist 2 by album and then go back to the playlist 1 then the arrow stays on the album column title even though the playlist 1 is sorted by artist.

Steps to reproduce:
Read the example in the summery.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

I had thought this was filed before, but thanks for filing it; it's certainly something I'd like to see too.
Comment 2 Michael Martin-Smucker 2008-11-19 15:45:35 UTC
This is especially annoying with my "Recently Played" playlist, which I'd like to keep sorted by Last Played.
Comment 3 Peeter P. 2008-11-19 16:33:01 UTC
I think you misunderstood my point. I meant that Banshee _remembers_ the sort order in every playlist, but the arrow in the column title doesn't remember it's state.

By the way, I am using Banshee 1.4.0.1 now and it is fixed in it.
Comment 4 Michael Martin-Smucker 2008-11-19 17:16:08 UTC
Really? Perhaps this was changed between the 1.3 series and 1.4, and I just didn't notice the fix when I updated Banshee. I'm away from my personal computer right now, so I won't be able to check for a little while.

For me the problem had been exactly the opposite. Going to my Recently Played playlist showed the arrow on the Last Played column, when in reality the playlist was sorted by Artist.

I'll check this when I get home and give an update.

Screenshot of a playlist not sorted correctly

Here's a screenshot of my Banshee 1.4.1 on Ubuntu Intrepid. This playlist is supposed to be sorted by Last Played Date, and the arrow shows that it is, but by looking at the list of songs you can see that it's actually sorting by Artist. Of course if I click Last Played, it will sort correctly, but I'd like it to remember my preferences. Is this not the same problem that you are having?
Comment 6 Peeter P. 2008-12-10 10:44:52 UTC
Sorry for the delay of replying. I can confirm it now, but it starts to happen after some time only: days, computer restarts, opening, closing Banshee. I haven't investigated yet how to exactly reproduce it. The problem is also when sorting by time. With some columns it works OK.
Comment 7 Peeter P. 2009-01-10 11:08:56 UTC
It is very annoying bug. Recently I began to like making a playlist of songs I want to listen with given order, but after some random times of opening Banshee the playlist will be reordered by artist.

Is there any progress in fixing this bug?

I've just spent half an hour trying to reproduce it... but I cannot. Does anyone know how to reliably reproduce the bug?
Comment 9 Michael Martin-Smucker 2009-06-15 13:49:11 UTC
Could you reproduce it some times and not others (with seemingly no pattern) or were you unable to reproduce it at all?

I can reproduce it regularly, but not reliably. I can't seem to find a pattern for when it works and when it doesn't. As far as I can tell, though, this may only be a bug with smart playlists (although those may just be the only ones that I ever sort in a special way). Steps to reproduce it frequently on my computer:

1. Create a new smart playlist, title it "Recently Played"
2. Match all criteria: Last Played less than 2.0 weeks
3. Save the playlist
4. (Hopefully there are some songs in this new playlist, I usually have between 200 and 450)
5. Choose to sort by the column "Last Played" so that things you have listened to most recently show up at the top of the playlist.
6. Wait a little while, maybe play some songs, maybe close and open Banshee a few times... this is where I don't have a magic formula for reproducing the bug.
7. Eventually the playlist will show the sort arrow as if it is sorting by Last Played, but the playlist will actually be in alphabetical order (as in my previous screenshot).

This happens with other smart playlists that I have as well. I'd like to keep my Top 30 playlist sorted from most played to least played, but it usually just ends up alphabetical. Sorry this doesn't really count as "reliably" reproducing the bug, but if there's anything else I can do to help, just let me know.
Comment 10 Michael Martin-Smucker 2009-10-07 13:35:03 UTC
This still happens with git, and as this is almost certainly not the intended behavior, I'm going to bump this from "enhancement" to a "normal" bug.

Assuming no one has found a good way to reproduce this yet, I'm going to hit this pretty hard today and see if I can find patterns or anything else that may be useful.
Comment 11 Michael Martin-Smucker 2010-04-06 16:12:17 UTC
@Alexander: Have you noticed/been able to reproduce this since October? I still notice this pretty regularly, especially with my 'Recently Played' playlist, which is almost always sorted alphabetically, despite the fact that I want it to sort by Last Played date.

I've still been unable to find any useful patterns, and I'm sort of out of ideas. If anyone else has suggestions, I'll gladly do any testing that would be helpful.

I'm afraid I haven't but I'm don't remember last time I browsed my playlists. I normally just select them in play queue autodj.

This is fixed in master, if not before
Comment 15 Michael Martin-Smucker 2010-11-20 18:15:04 UTC
It wasn't fixed in master as of a few days ago, but it definitely seems to be now. You're a champ.
