GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 554514
Chat windows spontaneously resizing
Last modified: 2009-11-29 11:44:53 UTC
Please describe the problem: Chat windows resize horizontally when typing in the message entry box instead of growing the box vertically. This only happens when the contact list on the right is resized. Steps to reproduce: 1. Enter a chat room of some description 2. Resize the contact list on the right of the window 3. Type something long in the message box Actual results: The window resizes horizontally Expected results: The message box resizes vertically Does this happen every time? Yes Other information:
Confirmed by Sjoerd and myself. Some experimentation suggests that it only happens when the user list is smaller than 50px or so.
Confirming, seeing this here as well.
I see this behavior when the contact list is far larger than 50px. In fact for me it seems that this behavior is triggered if I reduce the contact-list width from its initial value by even a few pixels. So for me, the point where it starts happening for me seems to about 200px. Note that a side effect of the window expanding is that you can also no longer make the window smaller until the text is removed from the text entry widget
Bruce, could you upgrade to more recent versions of GNOME and Empathy and let us know whether you can still reproduce this issue? I can't reproduce it with Empathy 2.27.x.
Yes, this still occurs with 2.28.1. If the contact list is made narrow, the entry box doesn't expand vertically with lots of text in it.
Thanks, Bruce. A screenshot or two might help me see how to repro it.
Created attachment 146399 [details] Before resizing
Created attachment 146400 [details] After This was done by resizing the HPaned to the right, which triggers the issue with the text box. I know these images don't quite explain it, but och well.
