Description Anders Pamdal 2008-09-10 11:44:54 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Looks like a hardcoded path in GDM.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to System/Administration/GDM and chose the second tab (local).
2. Click the button "add" to install a new GDM theme.
3. Look at screenshot @ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/268440

Actual results:
I get to /root/Desktop

Expected results:
To get to the correct directory.
In my case: ~/anders/Skrivbord (Desktop in english)

Does this happen every time?
Yes

I might add that the issue/bug is NOT ONLY the non coherent labels, but ALSO the pointing to the wrong directory.
Comment 2 William Jon McCann 2008-09-10 15:43:06 UTC
The GUI is probably running as root. We shouldn't do that. This is one of the reasons why we've removed this tool from trunk.
Comment 3 Anders Pamdal 2008-09-10 15:50:15 UTC
The same issue is found in gedit. (If that makes any diffrence)
Comment 4 Anders Pamdal 2008-09-10 15:56:35 UTC
The same issue is found in gedit IF I START IT AS ROOT. (If that makes any diffrence)
Comment 5 Anders Pamdal 2008-09-11 16:31:13 UTC
The non coherent labels found if running gedit as root should still be fixed...

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
