GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 547467
Cursor navigation of email messages in Thunderbird not functioning after switching back to the message from another application
Last modified: 2008-08-12 18:56:53 UTC
Please describe the problem: In Thunderbird, if you open a mail message, then Alt-Tab to another application, then Alt-Tab back to the mail message, you cannot read the open message using cursor navigation keys. This behavior occurs even when you Alt-Tab to the main Thunderbird window and back to the open message. Steps to reproduce: 1. Launch Orca. 2. Launch Thunderbird. 3. Open a message in your inbox or other folder. 4. Press Alt-Tab to move focus to another open window, then Alt-Tab back to the open mail message. Actual results: When you Alt-Tab back to the open mail message, you cannot use cursor keys to read the message. You also cannot use Read All (Keypad-Plus) to read the message. Expected results: You should be able to read the contents of the message using the cursor keys or Read All (keypad-Plus). Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: Workarounds: 1. Activate a menu, then close the menu. 2. Close and reopen the message.
Created attachment 116441 [details] debug output Debug output showing Orca's behavior for this bug. At start of log, Thunderbird is running. I then arrowed to the message to open and opened it. After the message had been read partially, I stopped speech, Alt-Tabbed to Firefox, then Alt-Tabbed back to the open message. I pressed the down arrow once, then control-home, then the down arrow key several times. From the point when focus returned to the open message, there was no speech output from Orca.
Thanks David. I just checked in a fix to this issue into trunk. Please verify.
Joanie, This is now working well. I can now read using cursor keys and read all. Thanks! Also, thanks for labeling this bug as "need info". It allowed me to get a debug log for a navigation problem in firefox. :-)
Thanks for the confirmation Dave. After I marked this NEEDINFO, I thought about that possibility, but that's not why I did it I swear. <grin> Thanks in advance for the future bug report though. <smile> *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 547345 ***
