GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 544481
the bug actually the problem related to HAL daemon which can't start after the last update. No sound for users
Last modified: 2008-08-31 05:21:42 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. try to restart haldaemon "haldaemon failed. The error was: Stopping HAL daemon: [FAILED] Starting HAL daemon: [FAILED]" 2. go to sound preferences press test button get "audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Internal GStreamer error: state change failed. Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=GStreamer." 3. Stack trace: Other information: there was no problem before haldaemon update there is sound for root
The real error message is not forwarded by gconfaudiosink. Stock answer: Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 471364 ***

Neither of automatic updates till now have actually resolved the problem.
