GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 542215
Play Queue doesn't allow shuffling
Last modified: 2009-12-24 03:51:29 UTC
While playing music from the "Play Queue", enabling "Shuffle by Song" has no effect. Please either implement this capability or disable toggling on shuffling while playing from the Play Queue.
The shuffle mode is enabled for the entire application. The Play Queue is sort of a special case sequential playlist. The idea is that the Play Queue is a diversion from your other music source (e.g. Library, playlist). So you can still turn shuffle on, it will just apply after the queue empties. (Rhythmbox does the same thing.)
I agree with the reporter, the play queue should be able to be shuffled. There is no other way to play say three different albums on shuffle, unless you use a complex search using multiple ors, or create a temporary playlist. It seems stupid to disable shuffling in the play queue when it would be so useful. Please consider changing this. Rhythmbox does allow right clicking on the queue and shuffling it, which would be an option, but it would be better to just allow enabling the normal shuffle mode.
For the sake of keeping things organized, I'm going to change this from NOTABUG to a dupe of Bug 539607, which was opened earlier than this bug and is still open. If the NOTABUG resolution is agreed on, it will happen in that report, but in the meantime, it might be helpful to have this report point there. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 539607 ***
