GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 538428
Evolution Mail and Calendar: In the Current view, und...
Last modified: 2008-06-17 11:35:45 UTC
In the Current view, under the "From" column, names with atypic encodings or special letters are not displayed correctly, and instead of displaying the name, display "=?EUC-KR?B?sei80sf2PGZ..." and other gibberish is shown. Distribution: Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) Gnome Release: 2.22.2 2008-06-03 (Ubuntu) BugBuddy Version: 2.22.0
IMAP or POP?
This happens in IMAP, with my gmail account. I don't use POP3. Names are correctly displayed in the header view, but not in the "From" column. Names used to be displayed correctly, this issue came out of nowhere a little while ago, probably after an automatic update (ubuntu hardy).
Hm. The mails may have been sent from a broken mailer. Are the emails displayed broken everytime or just in a special view? Do you mind to provide a stripped version of the email? (like replacing the content with foobar but leaving the subject untouched) Thanks in advance!

Check the screenshot to get a better idea of the bug. As you can see, names are displayed incorrectly in the list, but are displayed correctly in the preview. I guess that as soon as there is a non-ASCII character in the sender name, it displays the corresponding encoding, followed by gibberish. It happens to all mails, even from different providers (I checked the X-Mailer for different mails, and this bug happens with all of them). I have been using evolution for a while now and this just appeared recently, so I guessed it must be a bug, as the sender name is displayed correctly in the body of the e-mail. It can't be an gMail issue as even older mails that were downloaded before this bug appeared are displayed incorrectly. Hope this helps!
