Description Olivier Le Thanh Duong 2008-06-14 11:12:14 UTC
Empathy have lost several messages I got, it knows I got them since the new message icon in the panel was blinking but when I clicked on it the messages weren't in the discussion window. They weren't either in the history and when I exited Empathy and relaunched it they didn't show up, so they have been truly lost by Empathy.

Server-side log of Google Talk confirm I have got these messages while I was connected.

Other information that may be relevant : This was a gmail account, when I wanted to see the messages my contact was already disconnected and if I tried to reply it didn't work either.

Too bad you don't have debug messages. Which version of empathy were you using? Was the message you received the same than on already in your backlog when the window opened?

While trying to reproduce Bug #539974, Empathy lost a message:
http://people.collabora.co.uk/~alban/d/2008/06/empathy-bug-539974-message-lost.png

I don't have the logs :-(

The scenario was:
- contact A opens a chat window with contact C
- contact A goes offline
- contact B sends a message to A (while he is offline)
- contact A goes online
- contact A clicks on the blinking icon
- contact A's chat window has a new tab with contact B but without any new message

-> if contact A waits, the message appears after some seconds when Empathy gets all the avatars.
-> if contact A close immediately the window after the new tab appear, the message is lost. When all avatars are retrieved, open the tab again, you can chat but 1 message from contact B is lost.

This bug has been set to NEEDINFO for quite some time now. I am reopening, as I can't see any open question.

My log-manager branch is in the to-merge branch and should be merged to HEAD soon. Therefore, I am closing this bug.
