Description Rey Charles 2008-05-14 15:41:43 UTC
gThumb is my favourite image viewer and organizer in Linux. Thank you very much for creating such a good application. Although I must admit, that there is a feature i miss in gThumb.

Please, add Thumbnails pane view option on the left for faster and easier navigation, just like in Mirage-GTK Image Viewer. Here is a screenshot: http://mirageiv.berlios.de/images/ss2.png

Similar option have already been implemented in Eye of Gnome (which I don't like), but looks rather ugly compared to the one in Mirage.

I vote for this feature too; having list of thumbnails in one window with displayed image is very handy, user can quickly scroll and jump to a desired image on the far end of the list. Now with ongoing UI redesign we lost this ability as long as the browser window only displays thumbnails and the image view mode lacks list of thumbnails.

Let me describe my two use cases I mostly use gthumb for:
 1. checking the quality of exported photos - I need full size view (either zoomed or fit-to-window) and quick access to random photos. With the revamped GUI I'm forced either to switch back to browser mode, select a photo and get back to full image view, or to go sequentially up or down the list until I find the image I'm looking for.

 2. looking at EXIF, investigating most used focal length, aperture, etc. In older 2.10 version I simply switched the right (big) pane to EXIF treeview and scrolled through the thumbnail list. Having only thumbnails displayed was sufficient for my needs, no need to display the actual fullsize image.

So to sum this up - the old 2.10 UI layout was more convenient for me, I was able to efficiently do what I need in one view. It's kind of very heavy to use, doing too many clicking.
