What were you doing when the application crashed?
I was trying to cancel the "Retrieving message .." operation by clicking the little red cancel cross button in the status bar (a few times, I admit)

Oh, forgot to mention, I had already canceled a "refreshing folder" operation the same way (it disappeared, the retrieving message one didn't), just in case that could have altered the state somehow.
