GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 531564
jpeg.exe crashes when trying to open a picture
Last modified: 2008-10-30 20:12:55 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. Some .jpg files crash the app when trying to open them. This happens regardless of if I try to open them by dragging them into GIMP, opening them from within GIMP, or selecting "Edit with GIMP" when right-clicking on the file. A preview of the file is visible on the "Open Image" dialog when the file is highlighted and I can open the file. Also, I can open the images fine in other programs such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Windows Photo Gallery, so I know the file is ok. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.
Most probably a bug in libexif. But we would need access to the image to say for sure. If you can, please attach the image that causes the problem.
I am more than happy to send one of the .jpg files that crashes GIMP. The problem is that they are all slightly > 1MB and there is a 1MB limit on the size of an attachment in Bugzilla. Is there another way that I can send you a .jpg, like by email?
I just sent an email to bugs@gimp.org and attached one of the .jpg files that crash GIMP to it. Please let me know if this is ok.
Sending attachments to bugs@gimp.org is not OK. If you really don't have webspace where you could put the file for download, then please use one of the many free image hosting services.
Created attachment 110464 [details] Sample .jpg that crashes GIMP 1 of 2 Save this file and the subsequent file (.002), to the same folder and open it with 7Zip. You'll then be able to extract the compressed .jpg file. This will get around the 1MB limit of Bugzilla
Created attachment 110465 [details] Sample .jpg that crashes GIMP 2 of 2 Save this file and the previous file (.001), to the same folder and open .001 with 7Zip. You'll then be able to extract the compressed .jpg file. This will get around the 1MB limit of Bugzilla
There is a very good reason for the file size limit. So please don't work around it.
Here is a .jpg that crashes GIMP: http://qbvpbg.blu.livefilestore.com/y1pymWTw0I_hBaA6P6QW7YEsL6HfHZVVJ9JJNH7NfLB4xzd7kefow-NCvyS-KeSOI55qx4cWUmvJ9-rg8RS2K44cg/s41605ca108713_3.jpg
Why didn't you just say that it's a file from an Olympus camera? This is almost definitely a duplicate of bug #466044. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 466044 ***
