GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 527662
Sort artists by Lastname, then Firstname
Last modified: 2008-05-15 16:47:11 UTC
Currently, Bob Dylan is filed under 'B' instead of 'D'. Would be nice to add a sorting hint in either the meta data or the artist folder. For instance Bob _Dylan in the meta tag sorts Dylan, or the naming convention of the artist folder ("Dylan, Bob") can give Banshee an idea on how to sort it. Other information:
Still seems cumbersome. I think a better idea is to be able to highlight an album or filter results, and choose from a context menu: Sort as "Bob Dylan" Sort as "Dylan, Bob" And then store the results in the database. Band names starting with "The" should by default sort by whatever follows it, and offer a context menu to override it per artist/selection: Sort as "The Manic Street Preachers" Sort as "Manic Street Preachers, The" It gets tricky when there is more than one artist: Sort as "Black Francis & Kim Deal" Sort as "Francis, Black & Kim Deal" Sort as "Deal, Kim & Black Francis" Still don't know what to do with stuff like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young :)
Closing this as a duplicate to collect all sorting issues together, since they'll require a common fix. Thanks for the report. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 499650 ***
