When tab bar is full, opening a new tab gives no visual indication that it's happened

With a full tab bar, middle-clicking a link to open in a new tab gives no visual indication that it's succeeded. I often end up middle-clicking a link twice, which then gives me two copies of it, and only discover this later (when I "scroll right" on the tab bar). Firefox briefly flashes the "scroll right" icon on the tab bar when opening a new tab which is not currently visible, which alleviates this problem. Other information:
