Description Robert Malovec 2008-03-14 09:33:34 UTC
Incorrect translation
Application: ekiga

Incorrect text:
GNOME version: 2.21.91
- In page 5 of configuration assistant, the "detection of your NAT type is finished" dialog is not localized well, the meaning of sentence is not clear at all.

- Choose "File->New Address Book""Add an address book" dialog popup, Select "Remote LDAP" or "Remote ILS" from Type dropdown list:
When selected "Remote LDAP" or "Remote ILS", the translation of "Hostname", "Port", "Base DN", "Search Attribute", "select Search Scope" is not so good (meaning is not clear).

- Tools -> Chat Window "you say:" and "call" are not localized correctly.

Should be:

Thanks Robert for the bug report.

Ekiga translation is now queued for a revision.

1)
In particular, the strings in the startup assistant are not well revised.
There is also a problem with the interface: the text is chopped sometimes on the right. At least for me. Is that the case for you as well?

2)
For the translations of the "add new addressbook" dialog, "Name", "Base DN", "Hostname" and "Search attribute" seem pretty straighforward to me and are pretty standard. Where did the confusion arise from?

"Port" will be corrected. The terms in the select menu for "search scope" are new, probably adding the original English ones in brackets will make it clearer, no?

3)
"Call" -> "هتف", pretty standard, What I'll do is make it in order form -> "اهتف", which is what we should use for user interfaces.

This verb is of the device itself, "هاتف". What do you suggest instead?

"You say" is wrong indeed. Will be corrected.

The sources are removed on the ekiga HEAD.
I don't think this is a bug.

Takao, did you mean that comment for this bug?

What sources do you mean? I'm sorry I couldn't understand your reply.
Comment 4 Takao Fujiwara 2008-03-17 12:15:22 UTC
Hi,

I mean the trunk of ekiga source files.

1. "The NAT type detection will permit..." string was derived from ekiga/src/gui/druid.cpp but the druid.cpp was removed on the trunk.

2. "Hostname","Port", "Base DN",... were derived from ekiga/src/gui/addressbook.cpp but addressbook.cpp was removed on the trunk.

3. "you say:" and "call" were derived from ekiga/src/gui/chat.cpp but chat.cpp was removed on the trunk.

Also you can refer those strings are removed on the HEAD.
http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/ekiga/trunk/po/ar.po

If you need the fix, you need to modify brach/gnome2-22. my suggestion means it won't be on time for GNOME 2.22 release.

FYI, The order of "you say" is an i18n and now would be a code freeze.

Yes, the first case is the same for us, there is a problem with interface and not well revised strings.

in the select menu of "مجال البحث" there is a word "تحت شجرة" I suggest to make it "تشعبي".

About "Call" I think its more common to say "اتصل", and anyway the verb of "هاتف" is "هاتف" like "قاطع" from "مقاطعة".
These 2 words made the other correct words seem wrong to me
Also in "عدل معلومات الاتصال" there is written
 البريد ا؟لكتروني
(one letter is replaced by question mark)

It’s been ten years, Ekiga is effectively dead, closing.
