Description Björn Martensen 2008-01-29 20:25:54 UTC
i just built cheese 2.21.90.1 which came out seconds ago ;)
however, since i don't have yet bought my webcam, i started it without a cam attached which worked with previous cheese versions, but now the ui is blocked and i can't click anything. no buttons, no menubar menus, nothing.
i can't even exit cheese correctly, as i have to use "force quit" from metacity.
i know cheese needs a webcam to do anything, but it shouldn't block completely without one.

btw, the gnome foot is animated and disappears, giving me the gstreamer "test-image" which is animated of course, but then i can't do anything else from that point on.
Comment 1 daniel g. siegel 2008-01-29 20:34:36 UTC
so far it seems to be working, as we display the gstreamer test image when no webcam is attached.

what do you mean by "blocked"? doesnt it respond or are all buttons set to insensitive?
Comment 2 Björn Martensen 2008-01-29 20:50:14 UTC
it doesn't respond at all. when i click on a button or a menu item, it is as if i only put the mouse cursor over the button, but didn't click at all. there's not even a tooltip.
Comment 3 Björn Martensen 2008-01-29 20:51:42 UTC
btw, i get this outpu when i run cheese in a terminal:

$ cheese
** Message: Error: Stream contains no data.
gsttypefindelement.c(742): gst_type_find_element_activate (): /play/decodebin0/typefind:
Can't typefind empty stream

** Message: Error: Could not determine type of stream.

Reason: Stream contains no data..

** (cheese:13458): WARNING **: could not load /home/baze/.gnome2/cheese/media/0002.ogg (application/ogg)

is gstreamer0.10 0.10.15 sufficient or is 0.10.16 required? the news didn't say anything about 0.10.16.
Comment 4 daniel g. siegel 2008-01-29 20:55:28 UTC
0.10.15 _should_ be enough..

could you try to delete this file and try again?
Comment 5 Björn Martensen 2008-01-29 21:01:12 UTC
i removed .gnome2/cheese but now i just don't get the output anymore, the ui is still not responding.
Comment 6 daniel g. siegel 2008-01-29 21:04:55 UTC
what gstreamer versions are you using?

could you paste the output of cheese -v ?
Comment 7 Björn Martensen 2008-01-29 21:09:32 UTC
i'm using gstreamer 0.10.15

cheese -v doesn't output anything, instead gtk widgets and the terminal don't update anymore. i have to log in into a tty and kill cheese to get the whole gnome desktop responsive again.

cheese 2.21.5 worked (without a webcam that is ;))
Comment 8 daniel g. siegel 2008-01-29 21:16:10 UTC
hmm.. so it seems like some change between made it not working anymore for you
