Description Martin Meyer 2008-01-25 15:39:49 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The following error is occurring with almost anything I try to do on my mail acocunts:

IMAP command failed: Command Argument Error. 11

Expunging, filtering, sometimes just changing back to the inbox folder, all fail with this message. The problem affects both of my IMAP accounts once it starts.

I have two mail accounts configured, one is running Exchange 2007 (connected by IMAP), the other is a different Exchange server, probably 2005, also IMAP. I'm open to suggestions for debugging this, but I'd like whatever's happening to not recur every 4 days.

If I create a new mail account it is also affected by this. As a side effect, if my mail filters happen to work for some reason, it will move messages to local folders, fail to mark them as deleted, then they come back to the inbox later and get filtered again and again and again, which sucks. I ended up with 4 or 5 copies of some messages when this happened last week.

Speaking of last week, my last resolution to this problem was to delete .gconf/apps/evolution/, so maybe there's some corruption in gconf that is causing this? Are there any particular keys I could check on?

Does this happen every time?

which distro, which exact version?
you can set E2K_DEBUG=4, see http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/bugs.shtml
Comment 2 Martin Meyer 2008-02-04 15:25:57 UTC
Ubuntu Hardy, Evolution version is 2.21.90-0ubuntu1.

When I run Evolution in a terminal with that variable exported I don't get an error when I try to expunge my Inbox. When I switch in and out of that Inbox though, I see one of these messages:

(evolution:15988): evolution-mail-WARNING **: Error occurred while existing dialogue active:
Error storing `martin.meyer@hp.com@webmail.hp.com:INBOX': IMAP command failed: Command Argument Error. 11

or

(evolution:16117): evolution-mail-WARNING **: Error occurred while existing dialogue active:
IMAP command failed: Protocol Error: "Specified set of flags is not valid".

The message I was seeing changed after I changed E2K_DEBUG to 5.

Note that if I 'rm -fr ~/.evolution/mail/imap/*' I think the problem is fixed with no ill effect except that I lose my local imap cache.

I'm afraid I can't reproduce this anymore. I was never able to get any info from stdout, even when I set that variable mentioned in comment 1. Leave the bug closed, maybe someday I'll see this error again and I can post more info. Sorry :-(
