When you rename a folder that contains many dots, e.g. "V1.3.5" and then you try to take a copy of this folder in the same folder (e.g. folder y is the child of folder x and you copy the folder y and paste it in x) the name becomes V1 (copy).3.5 not V1.3.5 (copy).

Suggested solution: you should search for the last dot in the folder/file's name and then place the string "(copy)" before the dot if it's a file and at the end of the name if it's a folder.

You obviously filed this bug at the wrong place. GIMP doesn't copy folders.

I also experience this bug in Nautilus version 2.28.1.  It is easily reproduced: create a file named "some.file.abc".  Copy the file and paste it into the same directory.  The resulting pasted file is named "some (copy).file.abc" instead of the expected "some.file (copy).abc". "some.file" is the file name and ".abc" is the file extension.  You want to add the "(copy)" after the file name, not in the middle of it.  The handling of dots in the file name should be corrected.
