GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 507274
Confusing keyboard settings dialog box when logging in
Last modified: 2008-01-24 20:44:08 UTC
I switched my xserver from xserver-xorg to xserver-xgl. After logging in under xserver-xgl, gnome-settings-daemon popped up a dialog box with the following text in bold: "The X system keyboard settings differ from your current GNOME keyboard settings." The following was the actual text of the dialog box: "Expected was model "pc105", layout "gb" and no options, but the following settings were found: model "pc101", layout "us" and no options. Which set would you like to use?" The choice was between "Use X settings" or "Keep GNOME settings". Think about how confusing that is. The reason is that the text of the dialog did not link the phrases "expected" and "found" with "X settings" or "GNOME settings". Please rephrase the dialog box text to use the phrases "X settings" and "GNOME settings", or else rename the buttons at the bottom of the dialog box to "expected" and "found".
Created attachment 102125 [details] Dialog box that appeared after logging in The phrasing of the body dialog text as well as the button text is confusing.
