GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 505382
HTML mail does not show image titles
Last modified: 2013-10-09 13:34:33 UTC
Please describe the problem: HTML emails do not show image titles (<img title="..." ...>) in any way. evolution should ideally show the title as a tooltip, as seen in browsers. Discovered by viewing xkcd by way of rss2email and the atom feed. (Originally reported as http://bugs.debian.org/451081 .) Steps to reproduce: View an HTML mail which contains an <img> tag with a title attribute. Actual results: The title does not appear, either in the mail or as a tooltip on the image. Expected results: The title should appear, ideally as a tooltip on the image. (Also, evolution should avoid making the same mistake Firefox did: the tooltip needs to word-wrap, and not cut off after a fixed number of characters. Some sites use very long title text.) Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: I don't know whether this bug lies in Evolution's filtering of HTML mail or in the HTML rendering engine. I guessed the former, and thus reported the bug against evolution.

Argh, attached that to the wrong bug. Sorry.
Needs retesting in 3.5/3.6 with evolution[webkit].
Josh: Do you have a test HTML email to attach here?
I agree with Andre, the webkit for preview panel would solve this for free.
