When I double click on "Computer" on the Desktop, or I select it from the Bookmarks (or from the Places panel menu), i get an alert dialog saying:

Cannot open «computer:///».
There is no application installed for this file type.

(the first label is translated in Italian here, so it might be slightly different).

A similar error happens if Network Servers is on the desktop and you click on it:
Couldn't display "network:///".

Also happens if you click on Trash.

trash should work, did you install gvfs?

computer and network are not implemented in gvfs yet.
