GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 504646
Menu redraw leaves drawn surface (Vista)
Last modified: 2018-06-29 21:57:04 UTC
Please describe the problem: GnuCash 2.2.2 (under Vista) leaves some sort of drawing surface around when displaying menus. This problem manifests itself in two ways: 1) When GnuCash is minimised a minimised window appears *above* the start bar 2) When GnuCash is reopened from the minimised state a gray window (exactly the same size as the menu) is drawn over the gnucash window at the position at which the menu was opened. A minimized window is produced for each menu (File, Edit, View, etc.) Steps to reproduce: 1. Start GnuCash (under Vista) 2. Open a menu 3. Minimize GnuCash Actual results: A minimised window appears *above* the start bar. When the application is resumed a gray window (exactly the same size as the menu) is drawn over *all* other windows at the position at which the menu was opened. Expected results: No minimized window... no gray box obscuring GnuCash. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: Tested with Vista (32bit) and 2.2.2 binary release.

Description: GNUcash will not minimize when the taskbar button is clicked. The window flashes like other applications in Aero but then then pops right back up. When minimized from the top of the window, minimization works fine. Also, when a menu is opened and then the program is minimized a minimised window appears *above* the start bar. This window does not appear as a regular window, just a small grey box with "gnucash" on it. This behavior will not change with aero disabled or in compatibility modes. There is no grey window over all gnucash as in the bug above, though. This happens every time, and I am running Windows Vista Home Premium with GNU Cash 2.2.2
I observed part of the above problem as well, namely: > when a menu is opened and then the program is minimized a minimised window > appears *above* the start bar. This appears on Windows XP (Professional 2002 Service Pack 2) with trunk r16754, hence I think this is not related to Vista but rather to some gtk bug. This starts to look rather funny if I've opened all menus; minimizing gnucash will make a minimized icon ("window") appear for *any* of the menus that have been opened before. Oh, maybe this should be reported as a second bug.
Yes, I have all of these symptoms. XP SP2. happens when you display menu and sub menus. The blank menu screens will stay there and not go away. Have had 24 minimized 'screens' at once.
Same here, also XP Prof with SP2. Those blank menu screens remain on the desktop even when minimizing GnuCash. I also see the minimized "GnuCash" windows hovering above the task bar.
Looks related to, or maybe the same as bug #505928
With this bug being mostly "me too"s and the pretty pictures, in bug #507355, I'm closing this as a dupe of that even though it's technically the other way. ;) I think the screenshots do more to describe the problem than anything else. Cody, I copied your reference to #505928 over there as well as it's obviously relevant. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 507355 ***
