Description Travis Pettijohn 2007-12-18 19:57:44 UTC
Please describe the problem:
On startup, GnuCash runs exceedingly slowly. Once it finally starts (after ~45 seconds, were 2.2.0 took ~10 seconds), I was presented with a message about gconf and the following details:

Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0
Adding client to server's list failed, CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start GnuCash
2. Wait

Actual results:
Get the error. Program does not function correctly (opening my data file hangs the application). Trying to create a new file sort of works, but the new accounts Druid never starts, and the accounts tree view never loads.

Expected results:
Program should start without any errors.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
Running Vista x64. The slow startup and inability to open/create files issue happened with 2.2.1 and 2.2.2. I have been using 2.2.0 since July, as the newer versions are literally unusable.

@Travis: Oh, wait, did you encounter this problem with today's 2.2.2? That's, err, bad, because the point of bug#363648 comment#98 is that in 2.2.2 this should be fixed. Sigh.
Comment 3 Travis Pettijohn 2007-12-18 20:32:02 UTC
Yes, I downloaded 2.2.2 today and got this error. Overwriting files in the bin folder with ORBit2-2.13.3 solved the issue (I updated the GnuCash wiki/Windows with this info, too). Should we reopen?
Comment 4 Andreas Köhler 2007-12-18 22:10:42 UTC
I am sorry to say that, but the current GnuCash 2.2.2 win32 build does NOT contain the right ORBit2 DLLs. Please wait a while, we will keep you informed.
Comment 5 Andreas Köhler 2007-12-19 13:41:26 UTC
May you please download once again and try the updated setup.exe?
Comment 6 Travis Pettijohn 2007-12-19 17:18:56 UTC
I uninstalled and reinstalled with the new 2.2.2 binary posted at Sourceforge. GnuCash started up and loaded my books without issue! Nice work. What was the resolution?
Comment 7 Andreas Köhler 2007-12-19 17:27:15 UTC
You will find the complete history of the solution at bug 363648. As said in comment 4, there was a small mistake when building the setup.exe that was online yesterday, so that the unpatched ORBit2 v2.14.10 DLLs were included. This has been fixed now.
