When I open a jpg-file with gthumb (2.10.6 under Ubuntu-Gutsy) I can view all the exif-information. I can even make a new comment. But I cannot view the comments I already made in the jpg-file (e.g. with Gimp). Wouldn't it be much easier if gthumb uses the comment that is embedded in the jpg-file?
