GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 501289
Autocompletion order is strange
Last modified: 2008-08-29 13:07:30 UTC
Version: 2.12 Autocompletion order is very strange! When I send someone an email and I type their name in, it seems to try to chose email addresses in this order: + Home + Other + Work It should honesly pick whatever email address I put first in their contact list. I am accidentally sending a bunch of my employees work emails that are going to their home addresses. Distribution: Fedora release 8 (Werewolf) Gnome Release: 2.20.1 2007-11-13 (Red Hat, Inc) BugBuddy Version: 2.20.1
Thanks for the report. I'm not sure whether this is about sorting at all. The duplicate bug fits to this much more from my point of view. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 272391 ***
I don't think these are the same thing. Have you tried to just add a contact with a work email as well as a home email? Put the order of them in what ever order you want. You will see what I mean when you use the autocompletion to send them an email.
Sure, I did. And the reason why I think it's a duplicate is the thing it fixes your issue in a way that you can see to which address you are sending the email, (you can see only the contact name now), so you can see that you are sending to the address you want to. I do not think the ordering would help you anyhow, because when you choose the email, you cannot see that in the "To/Cc/Bcc" entry without that patch. Does it make any sense? Or is your only concern to see addresses in the order of some preference, with yours "work, home, others" I guess, even when there is more than one work address for the contact? I'm not sure whether this will fit to anyone. There is bug #337377 for sorting in the autocompletion list (not the dialog) too, but that preferably based on the name only.
