Needs review. (I am already tired of this piece of code.)
Looks good to me. (But it makes me think that the position handling in general seems (unnecessarily?) convoluted.)
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report. The sheer number of bugs in this little unimportant corner of Gnumeric strongly suggests you are right re. convolution.
