GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 495538
Split files to pages
Last modified: 2010-05-26 17:02:55 UTC
Well, I thought that it would be nice feature if there is possibility to split folder files to smaller parts. Folders would load much faster if not all files is shown, because it can cache first 100 first (or something like that), and in background load all other. For example, if I have directory which contains 1800 images (yeah, it would be stupid anyway, but sometimes eg. automatically ripped images from URL's etc can make this), it would be great if I can define how much images can be seen in "one page", just like many Web-image galleries. So, I mean, there will be "Show 9 items", "Show 18 items", "Show 27 items", "Custom" and "Show all files" possibilities or something like that. So, there I can select how many files will be shown. Others can be seen when pressing "Next files" and "Previous files". For example, sure, it can be also "10", "20", "50", "100", "Custom", "All". Like this: (well, "All" field is not shown in this example but you got the point anyway, I think) - http://stargazers.kapsi.fi/kuvat/sample_nautilus.jpg And surely, first time when this feature is on, user should see a message that "There is more files than these 20, you can press "Show all images" or "Previous" or "Next" to see more files in this folder, so there would not be any problems for new users to understand that all files is not shown just now, until user press "All files".
Hi Aleski. Thanks for the feature idea. I'm not sure that this is the best way to tackle this problem, however. Paging is an awkward navigation awkward compared to a scroll bar. Plus, this would break find as you type etc. I'm setting this to WONTFIX. Thanks for the report though.
