a thousand apologies! I meant to submit to the ubuntu bugzilla, but got confused due to two "report a bug" type entries in the menu.
regardless, here is what happened:
I recieved an email with an attachment and clicked the "save" button next to it, upon which I got a file save dialog with the name of the attachment in the text field "name" in the top of the dialog

I navigated to where I wanted to save the file, by clicking on the directory (and subdirectories) I wanted to save it in

the dialog cleared the name from the text field in the top.

I don't think navigating the directory has a reason to clear the name of the file, but I don't know whether it is a gtk fileselector bug, an ubuntu bug or an evolution bug; I intended to have it in the ubuntu bugzilla only at first, so the ubuntu devs could decide and push it upstream where appropriate. Sorry for the bother.

cheers
