The "dual page" view setting should be automatically enabled when the user zooms out so far that two pages fit next to each other in the window (or when the window is resized such that two pages fit).  IMO, this would be a big usability advantage, because it would just do "the right thing" automatically.

I agree with this, for example, this is already automatically done with openoffice
