Description Zack Cerza 2007-11-07 20:13:19 UTC
I've seen this bug get fixed and unfixed a lot, and it's back in F8. I'm currently using gnome-power-manager-2.20.0-6.fc8.i386.

What happens is that gnome-power-manager will suspend my laptop every time I unplug the AC adapter. I have a feeling it may be hallucinating lid-close events. HAL is not at fault, though:

14:40:17.513: acpi_AC property ac_adapter.present = false
14:40:17.784: computer property power_management.is_powersave_set = true
<suspend>

gnome-power-manager: (zack) Suspending computer because the lid has been closed, and the ac adapter removed (and gconf is okay)

Yeah, apparently g-p-m thinks my lid is always closed? But it's not:

# cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state
state: open

Forgot to mention: in addition, g-p-m is supposed to suspend when I close the lid, and 50% of the time it doesn't.

I am seeing this exact behavior for hibernate and it's pretty annoying. Here is what I have:
gnome-power-manager-2.20.0-6.fc8

In the gnome-power-manager preferences, on "On Battery Power" tab, I have it configured to hibernate when the laptop lid is closed. However, when I unplug the power, it hibernates. If I configure it to do nothing when laptop lid is closed, then it doesn't hibernate when the power is unplugged. I am using a ThinkPad T42 .

I'm on an X41. We should get hughsie a Thinkpad so he can feel the pain ;)

Three similar reports, all on Thinkpads:

Yeah, I've had to resort to disabling all the lid-close events because of this. Sucks, but it's better than the alternative.
Comment 7 Richard Hughes 2008-03-19 16:21:15 UTC
Does this still happen with a new HAL? If so, what does "lshal -m" say when you open and close the lid a few times?
Comment 8 Zack Cerza 2008-03-19 17:33:20 UTC
I haven't seen it in a while.

Okay, please re-open when (hopefully if!) you can reproduce. Thanks.
