GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 494056
Slow h.264 decoding
Last modified: 2008-02-16 07:38:40 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have a 1.6 CoreDuo Del laptop, pretty much the same model that now Dell sells with ubuntu in it. Anyways, Totem is really slow trying to decode a 720p h.264 video (drops frames), while VLC flies with it without a problem. At 1.6 Ghz CoreDuo, it should be able to decode 720p without sweating. Log in to Vimeo to download the .mp4 file to test it yourself: http://vimeo.com/372595 Just don't test it on a quad core xeon but on a more reasonable machine that should be able to work with it. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
I don't seem to be able to download the video. It always gives me an XML file with an 'internal error'.
Retry. It works fine for me. I am using Firefox on Windows, and the .mp4 file is downloadable just fine.
Ok, works now. Plays just fine for me on my laptop (Core2Duo 2.2GHz) with GStreamer/gst-ffmpeg from CVS. I suspect very much that this is a duplicate of bug #482660. I can reproduce the problem with the ubuntu gutsy version of things. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 482660 ***
