Looks like a quite peculiar bug, doesn't seem like epiphany's fault and looks quite unique. I would blame your GARNOME installation, if this happens again please report it back and mention that it was filled before. 
I suggest you to try a newer ubuntu instead of garnoming a newer GNOME.
