Description tigert 2001-09-10 01:18:37 UTC
So, I think it would be useful to have "New terminal in this folder" menu entry
in Nautilus window's File-menu and in the right click context menu. I made a
script to do that because I found it useful. I often want to open a new terminal
in a folder I am working on in nautilus.

So, the point is to open the terminal and have the shell working directory be
the one I was in nautilus.

come on!!! lets harness the power of the *nix..
This feature would be so much more productive than opening a terminal
and then cd'ing to that directory.

vhg119@earthlink.net: If you like to see this functionality added, you
can always help with a patch.
Comment 3 Dave Bordoley [Not Reading Bug Mail] 2002-05-13 04:07:37 UTC
The correct way to implement this feature would be to have an open
with => terminal in the context menu for folders. I filed such a bug
with gnome-terminal as a feature request since the terminal would have
to register itself as an application capable of opening folders. I
believe that in the scheme of the current nautilus ui, this would be
the correct way to implement such a feature, so i am marking this a
dupe of terminal bug 81603.

Hmm. This would not be too useful for the current directory though -
the place I most often wish to have a terminal in. I know KDE has a
key shortcut for "open a terminal in a current directory".

Having "open with Terminal" would be interesting too. But it does not
solve the "argh! give me a terminal right here!" -problem. Of course,
another thing is that if you repeatedly need a terminal when working
with Nautilus, one could ask whether Nautilus could be improved so
that you can accomplish the task with it..

I don't think this is a duplicate of 81603. What we need is a feature
of Konqueror's Ctr+T. Just as tigert described, it will bring up a
terminal and cd to the current location, just where you are. it's
handy in case of you are in a very deep or long path. Could someone
reopen it?
Comment 6 Haoqing Xu 2002-07-19 10:55:55 UTC
BTW, konqueror's Tool menu is a good idea. Could nautilus have such a
menu to place handy functions like this? Other functions could include
"Scripts"(in File menu currently), Websearch(also in File), Find file,
etc.
