The information available from:

  http://www.sil.org/iso639-3/download.asp

provides "[t]he complete set of mappings from macrolanguages to the individual languages that comprise them".  Pango can use that information for OpenType table lookup as well as language-to-script mapping.  It mostly matters for dead/minority languages though.
